Fernando Valenzuela, whose real name is Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea is a former Mexican MLB player. He was born on November 1, 1960 and he played as a pitcher for six various teams of the Major League Baseball. He played his best games with the Los Angeles Dodgers and he stayed with them for ten seasons. Due to his ‘Ruthian physique’ and a great screwball that allowed him to win his first straight decisions in the year 1981, he was able to start a craze called the ‘Fernandomania.’ That same year, he became the sole player who won the Rookie of the Year Award, Silver Slugger Award and Cy Young Award all in one season.
He began his playing career with the Guanajuato Tuzos of the MCL where he made a record of 2.23 ERA and the following year, he moved to the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol. Though a number of MLB teams are scouting him that time, it was the Los Angeles Dodgers who bought him out of his Liga contract. With the Dodgers, he led the team to win the tie with the Houston Airos with 17 pitches, two out of three innings and a save. He became a very famous rookie and in the year 1981, he started the Fernandomania. He became a media icon and he attracted crowds to watch his games. He is also a great offensive pitcher and during his rookie season, he batted at a .250 average and nine strike outs. He stayed with the Los Angeles Dodgers until he retired.
