Ewell Blackwell (full name: Ewell Blackwell; The Whip) played pitcher from 1942 until 1955 for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees and Kansas City Athletics. He played for the Reds from 1942 - 1952, Yankees from 1952 - 1953 and Athletics in 1955. Over 10 seasons, he started 169 games, won 82 games, struck out 839 batters, and had a 3.30 ERA. Born on October 23, 1922 in Fresno, CA, Blackwell stood 6' 6" and weighed 195 lb. He attended Bonita (Bonita, CA) high school. His debut was on April 21, 1942 and he played his final game on April 18, 1955. Common misspellings of his name include The Ewell Whip Blackwell.
