Third baseman in Major League Baseball, Eric Chavez has played for the Oakland Athletics since 1998. He was born on December 7, 1977 in Los Angeles, California. He is also looked upon as the prominent “team leader” of the A’s today.

 

He had studies at the Mount Carmel High School in San Diego, California and was a two-time Baseball America High School All-American selection. When he was a junior, he was the only one who was selected to such award. When he was a senior, he was able to bat .458 with 11 home runs and 24 runs batted in and stole 33 bases.

 

He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics during the first round of the 1996 draft and had professional debut in 1998. He is considered to be among the best defensive third baseman in baseball where he was able to bag 6 successive Gold Glove Awards from 2001-2006 leading to the recognition of Eric Chavez autographed baseball. It was in 2004 when the A’s signed him to a six-year contract extension. In his career, he was able to bat .250 and slugged .445 in April and May. During his 27 games of September and October, Chavez accomplished 10 home run with a blazing 31 runs batted in, a .379 batting average and a .738 slugging average.
