Eddie Smith (full name: Edgar Smith; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1936 until 1947 for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox. He played for the Athletics from 1936 - 1939, White Sox from 1939 - 1947 and Red Sox in 1947. Over 10 seasons, he started 197 games, won 73 games, struck out 694 batters, and had a 3.82 ERA. Born on December 14, 1913 in Mansfield, NJ, Smith stood 5' 10" and weighed 174 lb. He attended Columbus (Columbus, NJ) (All Transactions) high school. His debut was on September 20, 1936 and he played his final game on September 20, 1947. Common misspellings of his name include Eddie eddy Edgar edward Smith.
