He was drafted in his high school years in 1974 by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a starting pitcher and made his MLB debut on September 4, 1977. He marked his first win in a game against the Montreal Expos when he was made to place Jerry Russ. He was then traded to the San Francisco Giants along with his other teammates in 1979. Duane Kuiper, an infielder, to the Cleveland Indians and soon traded to the San Diego Padres for
Broderick Perkins and Juan Eichelberger; and to the
New York Yankees in 1985-1986 and back again with the San Diego Padres. He has posted a win-loss record of 126-123; earned run average of 3.79 and 1. 266 strikeouts before he was last seen in the baseball field on the 29th of September 1991. He is now a baseball coach as a volunteer in Dublin Jerome High School located in Ohio where his son is a first base player.

He attended Unicoi County (Erwin, TN) high school and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 6th round of the 1974 amateur draft.
