Dwight Hicks is a retired professional football player in the National Football League and played for the Toronto Argonauts, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Indianapolis Colts. Born in Mount Holly Township, New Jersey, Hicks was able to play high school football in Pennsauken High School where he was able to post a 9-1 win-loss record. Hicks decided to play for the University of Michigan after graduating high school.
Hicks made his NFL debut for the Argonauts during the 1978 season. However, the defensive back was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the following season. He was named into the Pro Bowl for the 1981, 1982, 1983 and the 1984 seasons. Hicks made an appearance during the Super Bowl XVI and the Super Bowl XIX.
During the 1981 season, Hicks was able to make nine interceptions and was able to record 239 return yards. His performance for this season allowed him to make an appearance in that year’s Super Bowl game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hicks was an integral member of the 49ers team and helped secure the win. Hicks became the defensive captain during the Super Bowl XIX for the 1984 season and was able to lead the team to another win.
