Former major league baseball player, Dwight Gooden is known to be one of the most dominant and feared pitchers in the National League. He was born on November 16, 1964 in Tampa, Florida.

Gooden was first drafted during the first round in 1982 where he was the fifth player taken overall. He had spent only one season with the minors where he led the Class-A Carolina League in his wins, strikeouts, and ERA. He also had 300 strikeouts in 191 innings. He had his major league debut on April 7, 1984 at the age of 19 with the New York Mets. During that season, he had won 17 games and he also became the youngest All-Star selection in baseball history. He was voted the Rookie of the Year where he gave the Mets two successive winners of that award leading to the recognition of 1986 N.Y. Mets six player autographed M&N jersey.

It was in 1986 when he set a 17-6 record. His 200 strikeouts were the fifth in the National League. As a free agent in 1996, Gooden signed with the New York Yankees. He finished his career as a mop-up reliever for a championship team and made the 1986 N.Y. Mets six player autographed M&N jersey a treasured item. He did not pitch during the World Series against the Mets and it became the anticlimactic ending of his career. Gooden retired in 2001 where he was cut by the Yankees during spring training.
