 Dwight Freeney is a professional football player in the NFL. He is currently the defensive end for the Indianapolis Colts. He attended Bloomfield High School where he was able to excel in baseball, basketball, football and soccer, and got letters for the four sports.

 

He decided to enter Syracuse University. He was able to set a number of records. He holds the current record for the most number of sacks in one season with 17.5 sacks during his last year of playing collegiate football. He is also leading in the number of sacks made in one year with 34.

 

Freeney’s professional football career started after he was selected by the Indianapolis Colts during the 2002 NFL Draft. He came in second for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award during his first season with the Colts. Freeney was instrumental in the Colt’s win during the Super Bowl XLI against the Chicago Bears in 2007. He signed a six-year contract with the Colts in a deal that made him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL.

 

Freeney made it to the Pro Bowl in five instances: in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009. He also made it to the first team of the All-Pro selection in 2004, 2005 and 2009, and was named the 2005 AFC Defensive Player of the Year.

Born in Hartford, CT on February 19, 1980, Freeney stands 6'1 and weighs 268 lbs. He attended college at Syracuse. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1st round (11th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft.
