Doug Weight is an American professional ice hockey player who is currently playing as center for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan. He took his college education when he attended the Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie where he played college hockey for two years from 1989 up to 1991. Weight is 5 ft. 11 in. and 196 lbs. and takes shot left handed.
He began his professional ice hockey career after he was drafted by the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League during the 1990 NHL Draft where he was a second round pick of the team. Weight had played two seasons with the New York Rangers before joining the Edmonton Oilers where he played for nine seasons, thereafter, joining the St. Louis Blues playing for five and a half seasons before he joined his current team, the New York Islanders in 2008. Apart from his NHL career, Weight had also made some stint during the shortened 1994–95 NHL season and the cancelled 2004–05 NHL season in the German Elite League.
