Doug Bird (full name: James Douglas Bird; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1973 until 1983 for the Kansas City Royals, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. He played for the Royals from 1973 - 1978, Phillies in 1979, Yankees from 1980 - 1981, Cubs from 1981 - 1982 and Red Sox in 1983. Over 11 seasons, he started 100 games, won 73 games, struck out 680 batters, and had a 3.99 ERA. Born on March 5, 1950 in Corona, CA, Bird stands 6' 4" and weighs 180 lb. He attended Pomona (Pomona, CA) high school and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 3rd round of the 1969 amateur draft (June Secondary).
