Major League Baseball coach and former player and manager,
Don Baylor played as a first baseman, outfielder, and designated hitter. He was born on June 28, 1949 in Austin, Texas.
He had studied in Austin High School before he attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas. He was then drafted by Baltimore during the second round of the 1967 amateur draft. Baylor played for the Orioles, Oakland Athletics, Angels, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins. It was in 1979 when he led the American League with a powerful 139 runs batted in and 120 runs. Baylor has successfully won the American League’s Most Valuable Player of the Year award and had led the Angels to their first-ever American League Western Division title leading to the acknowledgement of Don Baylor autographed “79 MVP” (MLB) baseball. He also made it to the World Series three times in three successive years for different teams.
Baylor then served as a hitting coach for the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals after he retired. He then became the manager of the expansion Colorado Rockies. Baylor had successfully won the National League Manager of the Year Award in 1995. He also became the hitting coach of the Atlanta Braves in 1999 and was then hired to manage the Chicago Cubs in 2000 to 2002 and because of that achievement, it made the Don Baylor autographed “79 MVP” (MLB) baseball a significant item to many fans. After managing the Cubs, he was hired by the New York Mets as a bench coach. Baylor served as a coach for the Seattle Mariners in 2005.
