Dominique Wilkins is a former American professional basketball athlete. He was born in Paris, France and graduated from Washington High School in North Carolina. He took his college studies at the University of Georgia. Wilkins, who goes by the nickname of “The Human Highlight Film,” started his pro basketball career after he was originally drafted in the NBA during the 1982 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz during the first round.
However, his problems within the Jazz’s organization along with his unwillingness to play with the team led him to be dealt to the Atlanta Hawks months after the draft where he was instrumental in the Hawks' prominence in the 1980s.Wilkins had an eighteen season career in the NBA, thirteen of which was spent with the Hawks. And after leaving the Hawks in 1994, Wilkins made some few stints in few other NBA teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs and the Orlando Magic.
Apart from his pro career in the NBA, Wilkins also played pro basketball overseas for the Panathinaikos of the Greek League and the Fortitudo Bologna of the Italian League. Wilkins had his last season with the Magics on 1999. Since 2004, Wilkins has served as the Hawks' Vice President of Basketball and was then inducted into Hall of Fame as Player in 2006.
