He had studied at the University of North Carolina in 1942 then he was enlisted in the United States Army where he took basic training in Miami and he was then assigned to the Air Force’s ground school in Clovis, Mexico. Blanchard also received an appointment to the United States Military Academy on July 2, 1944. He served as a place kicker and punter in addition to his very roles as linebacker and fullback. He also teamed up with Glenn Davis who is also a Heisman winner to make one of the most lethal rushing combinations in football history leading to the recognition of army Heisman winner football- autographed by Doc Blanchard, Pete Dawkins, and Glenn Davis. They had successfully scored 38 touchdowns and he was then named “Mr. Inside.”
Blanchard was really a good football player and had a very great chance to enter to many games and leagues and made the army Heisman winner football- autographed by Doc Blanchard, Pete Dawkins, and Glenn Davis a favorite item to many fans. But then, after he graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1947, he decided to get a career in the military where he would serve the United States Air Force being a jet pilot in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
