Dick Newsome (full name: Heber Hampton Newsome; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1941 until 1943 for the Boston Red Sox. He played for the Red Sox from 1941 - 1943. Over 3 seasons, he started 74 games, won 35 games, struck out 138 batters, and had a 4.50 ERA. Born on December 13, 1909 in Ahoskie, NC, Newsome stood 6' 0" and weighed 185 lb. He attended high school. His debut was on April 25, 1941 and he played his final game on September 27, 1943. Common misspellings of his name include Heber Dick Hampton Newsome.
