James Dennis Alan Hamlin is a NASCAR driver who was born on November 18, 1980 in Tampa, Florida. Sources say he began racing at seven years old driving go-karts in 1988. When he was 15, he bagged the WKA manufacturers’ cup for the Ministocks. His first stock car race was a success when he won the pole position at the Langley Speedway. He reached the Grand Stock level in 1998 and in 2000 proceeded to the Late Model Stock Cars. Joe Gibbs Racing signed him to a driver development contract in 2004.
In 2009, he continued to drive in the Sprint Cup with car #11 and car #20 for the Nationwide Series for the Joe Gibbs Racing. He won several races including the Richmond International Raceway and the TUMS Fast Relief 500 in 2009. He likewise emerged victorious in the Ford 400 race and was included in the top ten in most of his races. After his surgery on March 2007, he went back to racing and made his way up to the Texas Motor Speedway and other racing events. He has a total of 13 wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, 10 wins in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and four top ten places at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
