Born in Wooster, Ohio, Wilmer Dean Chance is a pitcher in the Major League Baseball. He was selected as an amateur free agent by the Baltimore Orioles in 1959 but only played in the minor leagues. The following year, he was chosen in the 1960 AL expansion draft by the Los Angeles Angels where he debuted in the major leagues with the team on the 11th of September 1961. In the year 1966, he was sent to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for
Jimmie Hall, Don Mincher and Pete Cimino. To complete the deal a player from the California Angels in the person of Jackie Hernandez was sent to the Twins. He has also played for the Cleveland Indians when he was traded by the Twins along with
Ted Uhlaender, Bob Miller and Craig Nettles in exchange for Stan Williams and Luis Tiant. From the Indians, he was bought by the New York Mets who later on traded him to the Detroit Tigers together with Bill Denehy in exchange for
Jerry Robertson. He last played in the major leagues with the Tigers on the 9th of August 1971.
