Danny Graves is a relief pitcher of the Colorado Rockies. His father is an American serviceman and his mother is a Vietnamese. He is among the few Vietnamese-American players in the major league.
Graves graduated from Brandon High School in Brandon, Florida and was given a baseball scholarship to the University of Miami. He was then chosen by the Cleveland Indians during the fourth round of the amateur MLB Draft in 1994. It was in July 1997 when Graves was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. During his first nine seasons, he was able to compile a 40-42 record being a pitcher with 406 strikeouts, a 3.89 ERA and 172 powerful saves in 755.2 innings. Graves had signed as a free agent to the New York Mets on June 11, 2005.
It was on December 2005 when he signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians. He had showed a good performance and he also pitched well during Spring Training where he earned a spot in the Indian bullpen but then he was designated for an important assignment on May 2006. That event happened after he opened the season with a 2-1 record and a powerful 5.79 ERA all in 13 relief appearances. Graves was then assigned to the Indians’ AAA affiliate- Buffalo Bisons in Buffalo on May 18, 2006. He ended the 2006 season with a strong and powerful 4.01 ERA with the Bisons.
