About Curtis Wilkerson Memorabilia & Collectibles
Curtis Wilkerson is a former American pro baseball athlete. He was born in Petersburg, Virginia and graduated from Dinwiddie High School. Wilkerson batted with both hands and threw with his right. He began his pro baseball career when he was drafted in the fourth round by the Texas Rangers during the 1980 amateur draft. Wilkerson made his debut on September 10, 1983. And although Wilkerson made his major league debut as a late season call up in 1983, it was 1984 which is his official rookie season where he was named the Rookie of the Year in that season.
Wilkerson, along with teammates Paul Kilgus, Mitch Williams, Steve Wilson, was traded on December 1988 to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Rafael Palmeiro, Jamie Moyer, and Drew Hall. Wilkerson played for two seasons with the Cubs. After which he also joined the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Kansas City Royals, where he had his final game on May 16, 1993, before retiring.
After retiring from his playing career, Wilkerson served in the coaching staff of the Royals and the Pirates organizations. Currently, Wilkerson is a manager of the Tarrant County Blue Thunder of the independent Continental Baseball League.
