In the next season, he was a restricted free agent and he signed with the New York Jets. He helped the team to be on the AFC championship game. Martin also won the FedEx Ground Player of the Year Award in 2004. Unfortunately in 2006, it was declared that Martin would miss the rest of the regular season due to a bone-on-bone condition in his right knee. In his 10 years of being a professional player, Martin had rushed for about 1,000 yards. He also scored his 100th career touchdown where he joined an elite group of 16 players who were able to do so.
