A seven-time All-Star baseball player, Craig Biggio had played his entire Major League career with the
Houston Astros. He was born on December 14, 1965 in Smithtown, New York.
He studied at the Seton Hall University and became an All-American baseball player. Biggio was then drafted by the Houston Astros during the first round in 1987. He was called up as catcher in the 1988 season where he batted .344 duirng his minor league career. Biggio was also the Astros’ starting catcher in 1989 during his full season with the team. He bagged the Silver Slugger award in 1989. All in all, Biggio had played a total of 18 games in the minors. During their spring training in 1992, he was converted to the second base. He is also the first player of baseball who became an All-Star at catcher and second base. He was also famous as a reliable, hustling, consistent top of the order hitter, with a rare power for a second baseman.
It was in 2005 when Biggio moved back to the second base just after
Jeff Kent left their team for the
Dodgers. He had set a new career high when he hit 26 home runs and when he hit his 100th runs batted in. he then became the second Astro with 100th runs batted in for Houston. He had also played in the World Series in 2005. Biggio was then the 23rd player in MLB with 10,000 at-bats on May 23, 2006.
