About Connie Hawkins Memorabilia & Collectibles

 Dubbed as “The Hawk” Connie Hawkins is a retired professional basketball player. He played for both the American Basketball Association and also for the National Basketball Association. Hawkins was born in Brooklyn, New York and was famous as a New York City playground player most specifically Rucker Park.

 

Hawkins waited until he was in junior year before he decided to play in his high school’s varsity team. He helped the Boys High claim the 1959 PSAL title. During his last year of playing high school basketball, Hawkins was average 25.5 ppg and was even able to score 60 points in one particular game. He led the Boys into a second PSAL title that year before agreeing to study at the University of Iowa.

 

Hawkins decided to play in the American Basketball League after a point-shaving scandal that implicated him got him blacklisted from playing in any professional league. He was named as the MVP for the league and then played Harlem Globetrotters. He later played in the ABA for the Pittsburgh Pirates and led the team to a championship title. Hawkins was also named as an MVP.

 

He was allowed to play in the NBA after the 1968 season following a lawsuit that he filed and was able to play for the Phoenix Suns. He was named as an All-Star during the 1970-73 seasons. Hawkins was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.

Connie Hawkins (full name: Cornelius L. Hawkins; Connie, Hawk) played Forward-Center from 1968 until 1976 for the Pittsburgh Pipers, Minnesota Pipers, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks. Over 9 seasons, he played 616 games, scored 11528 points (18.7 ppg) and grabbed 5450 rebounds (8.8 rpg). Hawkins also dished out 2556 assists (4.1 apg), made 244 steals (0.4 spg), and blocked 150 shots (0.2 bpg) during his career. Born in Brooklyn, New York on July 17, 1942, Hawkins stands 6-8 and weighs 210 lbs. He attended high school at Boys in Brooklyn, New York and college at University of Iowa. He was inducted into Hall of Fame as Player in 1992.
