Cody Joseph Ross currently plays professional baseball for the Florida Marlins of the Major League Baseball. He is from Las Cruces, New Mexico and was born on December 23, 1980. Ross was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 4th round of the 1999 MLB amateur draft. He made his major league debut on July 4, 2003 in a game against the Kansas City Royals which the Tigers lost. That year, Ross got the Detroit Tigers Minor League Player of the Year Award. On April 1, 2004 he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Steve Colyer. In a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 2006, Ross hit a grand slam that broke the tie and a 3 run- home run to help the Dodgers win. On April 24, 2006, he was sent to the Cincinnati Reds and then in May 2006, his playing rights were purchased by the Florida Marlins. At present, Ross has a .274 batting average with 81 home runs and 305 runs batted in, together with an on- base percentage of .324.
