About Chuck Harmon Memorabilia & Collectibles

Chuck Harmon is a retired professional baseball player during the 1950s. He was a utility player for the Cincinnati Redlegs, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-handed player went Dunbar Elementary where he was taught by Burl Friddle. He helped his team, the Washington Hatchets, win the championship in 1941 and again in 1942. Harmon played with his brother Bill during the 1941 championships.

He was able to get into the University of Toledo and played in the finals of the National Invitational Tournament together with Art Grove, who he played with in high school, and an entire team of freshmen players. Harmon was honored as an All-American in basketball. However, it would be Grove and Davage Minor, who he also played with, who would be able to get into the NBA.

Harmon tried out for the Boston Celtics but was unsuccessful. However, he managed to play for the Cincinnati Redlegs and was the first ever black player in the history of the team. He also played for the Cardinals and the Phillies later in his career. He spent four seasons in the majors and was able to come up with a .238 BA and hit a total of 7 homers.
