Chris Volstad is an American professional baseball player and is currently playing as pitcher for the Florida Marlins of the Major League Baseball. He was born in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Volstad was a graduate of Palm Beach Gardens High School in 2005. Volstad had an extraordinary baseball career in high school; going 7-2 with one save and ERA of 0.41 in 10 games during his senior year, and stroked out 98 batters and walked just eight in 69 innings. Volstad have led his team into the regional playoffs, coming up one game short of States. Volstad is 6 ft. 8 in. and 225 lbs. He bats and throws with his right.
Volstad turned professional after he was drafted by the Florida Marlins of the Major League Baseball during the 2005 MLB Draft where he was a first round pick of the team. Volstad formally signed on June 9, 2005. He was not however listed as an active roster and instead, Volstad made a stint in the minor leagues. In his rookie season in the minors, Volstad went between the GCL Marlins and Jamestown Jammers. At the start of the 2006 seasons, Volstad started out in the South Atlantic League with the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The Marlins purchased Volstad's contract on July 6, 2008 and added him to the active roster. He made his major league debut the same day in a game against the Colorado Rockies.
