About Chien-Ming Wang Memorabilia & Collectibles
Chien- Ming Wang is the third Taiwanese player that made it to the major leagues. He was born on March 31, 1980 in Tainan City, Taiwan. Prior to joining the Major League Baseball, he played for the Taiwan national team in the Asian Games in 2002. In 2003, Wang was a part of the World Team in the All- Star Futures Game. He also led the team against Australia and Japan in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He is so popular in his home town Taiwan and all his games are televised nationwide. He was named as one of the Time 100 in 2007 because of this.
He debuted in the MLB on April 30, 2005 for the New York Yankees. Wang made his way through the minor league system and his jersey number 41 was retired in 2006. He played against Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals on June 18, 2006 and played his first complete game in July 28, 2006 against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He also helped the Yankees win against the Detroit Tigers in the same season.
In the 2007 season, Wang played against the Tampa Bay, the Seattle Mariners, the Boston Red Sox, and the Cleveland Indians, among others. This was the season where Wang suffered from an injury thus preventing him to play well. By 2008, he continued to play for the Yankees and this time he was almost back in shape. His first loss for the said season was against Cliff Lee of the Cleveland Indians. He again suffered from injuries both in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. By December 2009, the Yankees did not tender Wang thus making him a free agent. He signed with the Washington Nationals in February 2010 and speculations abound as to when he will be back in the majors.
