Charlie Ward, Jr. is an all- around athlete from Thomasville, Georgia. He was born on October 12, 1970 and is regarded as one of the best all- around athletes in the last quarter century. He has many awards to his name including the Davey O’ Brien Award and the Heisman Trophy which he both won in 1993.

During college, he led the Florida State University Seminoles in the National Championship against Nebraska in the 1993 Orange Bowl. He is second only to O.J. Simpson in the victory with the widest margin for the Heisman Trophy and the only Heisman winner to play in the NBA. He also won the James E. Sullivan Award from the Amateur Athletic Union in 1993 and was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

Ward was also drafted for baseball though he did not play the sport during college, is a basketball player and an avid fan of tennis. He even played in the Arthur Ashe Amateur Tennis Tournament in 1994. Ward was also a model student- athlete, serving as Student Government Vice President in his senior year.

He eventually played for the National Basketball Association instead of the NFL and was drafted in the first round as 26th overall by the New York Knicks in 1994. He plated as point guard and was invited to become a back- quarterback for Joe Montana from the Kansas City Chiefs, an offer he declined.

Ward was known to be a hard worker, a great shooter, a reliable ball distributor, and a respected playmaker. He was fourth place in the 3- point shooting competition of the 1998 NBA All- Stars and helped the Knicks to reach the 1999 NBA finals. He then played for the San Antonio Spurs in 2004 then the Houston Rockets after which he retired because of injuries. Upon retirement he served as an assistant coach to the Westbury Christian School and the Houston Rockets, and then worked as head coach for the Westbury Christian School football varsity.
