Charlie Villanueva is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays as power forward for the Detroit Pistons. Villanueva took his college education at the University of Connecticut where he also played college basketball with the Connecticut Huskies. Villanueva stands 6 ft. and 11 in. He started his pro career in the National Basketball Association after he was drafted by the Toronto Raptors in the 2005 NBA Draft at the age of 20. He was the seventh overall first round pick of the team in the draft.

 

After the draft, the Raptors had been widely criticized for selecting Villanueva in the 2005 NBA Draft. However, Villanueva answered with a firm rookie campaign. He was able to finish as second among rookies in regard to points and rebounds and third in blocked shots. Villanueva had an average of thirteen points and six rebounds in his eighty one games. On June 30, 2006, Villanueva was dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for point guard T. J. Ford. In March 2009 Villanueva was reprimanded by the Bucks’ coach Scott Skiles for allegedly posting a message on his Twitter during halftime of their game against the Celtics, one sports review says. And in June 2009, Villanueva signed for a five year contract with the Pistons.
