 Charlie Hayes is a retired professional baseball player in the MLB. He occupied the third baseman position for the San Francisco Giants, the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Yankees, the Colorado Rockies, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Houston Astros. Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Hayes was a right-handed player.

 

Hayes was signed by the San Francisco Giants during the 1983 amateur draft. Hayes was selected during the fourth round of the draft. He went on to play for the San Francisco farm system for a number of seasons before being called up to the majors. He made his debut game in 1988.

 

He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies together with Terry Mulholland, and Dennis Cook. After playing for some time for the Phillies, Hayes was sent to the New York Yankees in 1992. Later that year, the Colorado Rockies selected Hayes during the 1992 expansion draft and was later granted free agency by the Rockies in 1994. Hayes returned to the Phillies for a short time before signing with the Pirates. He would sign again with the Yankees and the Giants before playing the Milwaukee Brewers and the Houston Astros.

 

Hayes led the league a couple of times including double plays (in 1993 and 1995) and range factor (in 1990). He also helped the Yankees clinch their 1996 World Series title.
