A former outfielder in Major Baseball League, Cesar Francisco Geronimo Zorilla was born on March 11, 1948 in El Seibo, Dominican Republic. Known simply as Cesar Geronimo, he was a member of Big Red Machine of the team Cincinnati Reds in 1970. A left-handed batter and thrower, he made a name in Major Baseball League on April 16, 1969 for the Houston Astros. He joined the Cincinnati Reds during the 1971 season where he became part of an eight-player deal.
According to many reviews, Geronimo was an outstanding defensive center field player of not just one, but five divisional championships. He bagged the Gold Glove Award four times from 1974 to 1977. He made a batting average of .258 and 51 home runs with 392 runs batted in. In his fifteen years as a player, he made 977 hits, 50 triples, 161 doubles and 82 stolen bases, according to statistics. His throwing arm which he used with full power was considered to be his asset thus, he was named “The Rifle”. He spent the last three seasons as a player for Kansas City Royals. His last MLB appearance was on August 28, 1983. When he ended his playing career, he worked as a coach for Japanese Hiroshima Carp in their Dominican Baseball Academy.
