Henderson was born in Memphis, Tennessee and attended the University of Memphis from 1994 to 1997. While playing in his high school basketball team, Henderson named as a 1993 McDonald’s All-American.

Eligible to join the 1997 NBA Draft, Henderson was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers during round two of the said draft. This made Henderson 1997’s 44th overall pick. During his first season in the NBA, Henderson was named into the second team of the NBA All-Rookie Game. He also led the league in the most number of games played during the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
