Carlos Humberto Ruiz Gutiérez is a professional footballer from Guatemala. He is presently playing for the Aris Thessaloniki Football Club of the Greek Super League.
Carlos Ruiz is nicknamed El Pescadito or “The Little Fish” and started his career in the local CSD Municipal club. He had a short stint playing for the Greek club PAS Giannina in 2000 before returning to Municipal. By January 2002, he signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy of the Major League Soccer. During his first season with the Galaxy, he led the team to the MLS Cup and was named as the MLS Most Valuable Player. His numbers dropped significantly for the following seasons and in 2005 was traded off to the FC Dallas. He helped Dallas in a game against the Colorado Rapids though they still lost the match. In 2006, in a game against DC United, Ruiz’s bicycle- kick goal was considered the Goal of the Decade. He was then traded back to the Galaxy in 2007 and in 2008 was sent to the Toronto FC. In January 2009, he signed with Puebla FC and made his first goal for the team against the Tigres UANL. By 2010, he joined the Aris FC and debuted in a game against Austria Wien. He also played for the Guatemalan national team for the FIFA World Cup but declared that he will retire from international football.
