Born on April 24, 1977 in Manati, Puerto Rico, Carlos Beltran is a Major league Baseball outfielder of the New York Mets. Even in his childhood days, Beltran was already inclined to sports. His favorite sports are volleyball and baseball.
Beltran graduated in Fernando Callejas High School in 1995 and he was considered as a five tool player and he was also chosen by the Kansas City Royals during the second round of the 1995 amateur baseball draft. He made his first major league debut in 1998 where he played 14 games with the Kansas City Royals. It was on 1999 when Beltran won the American League Rookie of the Year award. Due to an injury, he missed part of the 2000 season. Beltran also showed a tremendous performance leading him to be voted as American League Player of the Month for April 2004.
He was traded to the Houston Astros during a three-team deal. He was also chosen to the American League starting outfield for the 2004 All-Star Game but then Beltran was initially denied a place because of his trade to the National League. After the 2004 season, he became a free agent for the first time and was said to be the biggest free agent on the market. In 2006, he played for Puerto Rico during the 2006 World Baseball Classic where he joined Carlos Delgado, Bernie Williams, and Javier Vasquez.
