Everett accomplished a total of 948 rushing yards when he was a senior. And on 1990, he graduated at Hillsborough High School. During the 1990 amateur draft, he was chosen by the New York Yankees yet Everett made his major league debut with the Florida Marlins. When he was traded with the Mets, he had a total of 443 at bats during his first full season. He also hit .248 with a powerful .420 slugging percentage. Everett had his best seasons in 1999 with Houston Astros where he hit .325 with 27 stolen bases. It was also in that year when his .571 slugging percentage was among the top 10 in the league.
He was traded to the Boston Red Sox on December 1999. During his stay with the team, Everett suffered a shoulder injury which hampered his performance.
