Cal Ripken, Sr. was a former professional baseball player who had his entire Major League Baseball career with the Baltimore Orioles team. Born on December 17, 1935as Calvin Edwin Ripken, Sr., he also worked as a coach and a team manager after his celebrated career in the league.
Before his lengthy career in the major leagues, he spent ten years in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system. After being able to establish himself in the field, he played in the major leagues.
After his playing career, he went to coaching and managed the farm system of the Baltimore Orioles, a career where he was more famously known for. He spent a total of thirteen years a manager of the minor league teams of the Baltimore Orioles and had logged 964 wins for the teams. He recorded a 68-101 managing statistics in his entire minor league management career.
Because of his great contributions for the Baltimore Orioles, he was named to the Orioles Hall of Fame in 1996.
Ripken died of lung cancer at 63 years old and was given several honors to recognize his invaluable contributions to the professional baseball field.
