Cal Ripken, Jr., born as Calvin Edwin Ripken, Jr., is a retired professional Major League Baseball athlete who played as a third baseman. Nicknamed as the “Iron Man”, he was a strong part of his professional team and was known to have endured a lot of minor injuries in his entire MLB career. He was a star player at Aberdeen High School and had a few stint in the minors leagues.
He had his first game in the Major League Baseball on August 10, 1981 for the Baltimore Orioles with which he spent his whole MLB career.
Among his memorable feat in the field was being able to record 2, 131 games in the 1995 season and his remarkable home run in the Oriole Park at Camden Yards. He was included in the All-Star team of the league not just once, but nineteen times in his entire stay in MLB and was among the players who hit 3000 in MLB. Reviews say he was one of the finest players to serve the shortstop and third baseman position in the history of the league.
In 2007, he was named to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In his entire streak as a Baltimore Orioles player, he appeared in 2, 632 games and left the team in the 1998 season.
