Born in Norfolk, VA on June 18, 1963, Smith stands 6'4 and weighs 262 lbs. He attended college at Virginia Tech. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 1st round (1st overall) of the 1985 NFL Draft. Smith was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
