About Bruce Edwards Memorabilia & Collectibles
Charles Bruce Edwards was one of the great Major League Baseball catchers of his time. He played 11 seasons in the Major League from 1946 to 1956. Edwards was an All-Star in 1947 and 1951.
Edwards’ Major League Baseball debut was in June 23, 1946 for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The team was the first to have an African-American playing for a Major League Baseball, Jackie Robinson, in 1947. While other teams refused to integrate players like Robinson, the Dodgers won six pennants in 1947-1956 with the help of Robinson, three-time MVP
Roy Campanella, Cy Young Award winner Don Newcombe, Jim Gilliam, and Joe Black. Jackie Robinson eventually became the first African-American elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. The team is now known as the Los Angeles Dodgers. Current roster include players like
Chad Billingsley and Asian
Hiroki Kuroda.
Bruce Edwards’ last Major League Baseball appearance was in September 13, 1956 for the Cincinnati Reds.
