About Brian Winters Memorabilia & Collectibles


Brian Joseph Winters is a retired NBA player and former coach for the National Basketball Association and Women’s National Basketball Association. He is from Rockaway, New York and as born on March 1, 1952.

 

Winters attended Archbishop Molloy High School as a high school student and spent his collegiate basketball career in the University of South Carolina. He was selected as the 12th overall pick of the 1974 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. In the Lakers’ attempt to get Kareem Abdul- Jabbar to play for them, Winters was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks. He had a very fruitful 9- year career with the league, allowed him to play twice in the NBA All- Star Game and 6 teams that made it to the playoffs. Winters has an average of 16.2 points and 4.1 assists per game. He marked his career high from 1975 to 1979, making an average of 19 points per game and almost 5 assists per game. Upon retirement, he served as an assistant coach to Pete Carril at the Princeton University. He then worked as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers and then at Atlanta Hawks. He also coached the Vancouver Grizzlies, Denver Nuggets, and Golden State Warriors. He was previously the head coach of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever and led the team to 2 consecutive playoffs campaign. At resent, he serves as a scout for the Indiana Pacers.

Brian Winters (full name: Brian Joseph Winters; no nicknames) played Guard-Forward from 1975 until 1983 for the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks. Over 9 seasons, he played 650 games, scored 10537 points (16.2 ppg) and grabbed 1688 rebounds (2.6 rpg). Winters also dished out 2674 assists (4.1 apg), made 792 steals (1.2 spg), and blocked 190 shots (0.3 bpg) during his career. Born in Rockaway, New York on March 1, 1952, Winters stands 6-4 and weighs 185 lbs. He attended high school at Archbishop Molloy in Jamaica, New York and college at University of South Carolina. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1st round (12th pick, 12th overall) of the 1974 NBA draft.
