Father of current minor leaguer Brett Harper, Brian Harper is a retired professional baseball player. He played in the Major League Baseball and occupied the pitcher position all the time that he became active as a player in the league. He is one of the few players who were able to play in both the American and the National Leagues in the course of their career. The older Harper was able to play for a total of 16 seasons in the MLB. He made his first MLB appearance in 1979 and announced his retirement in 1995.
During the 1977 amateur draft, Harper was selected by the California Angels in round four. He was able to appear for California in the league in 1979 but he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1981. After Harper appeared for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Detroit Tigers and then the Oakland Athletics, Harper found himself with the Minnesota Twins in 1988. Harper was able to play extensively for the Twins and he was the catcher for the team during the 1991 World Series which the team subsequently won.
Harper played for the Milwaukee Brewers and then for the Oakland Athletics before announcing his retirement in 1995.
