Brandi Chastain was on the United States women’s national soccer team in 1991 to 2004. She was born on July 21, 1968 in San Jose, California. She had also played for the San Jose Cyber Rays of the WUSA from 2001-2003. Chastain is well-known for her game-winning penalty kick against China during the 1999 Women’s World Cup final.
When she was still in high school, she had shown interest and power in the sport. Chastain studied in Archbishop Mitty High School where she helped the team to three state championships. It was in 1986 when she was awarded the Soccer America Freshmen Player of the Year at the University of California, Berkeley. Chastain transferred to another school which is the Santa Clara University and has successfully led the team to two Final Four NCAA appearances before she graduated in 1991. On April 18, 1991, she represented her country against Mexico. Team USA where she was in went on to win the World Cup where it was staged in China.
Chastain has powerfully participated in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games where she helped the American team to take home the gold medal through playing every minute of the US game. She had played for the San Jose CyberRays in the Women’s United Soccer Association. Chastain was playing on the US women’s national team and had her last game on December 6, 2004. She is currently a broadcaster of ABC/ESPN and covers on the Major League Soccer.
