About Bobby Walden Memorabilia & Collectibles


Robert Earl Walden, also known as Bobby Walden, was born on March 9, 1938 in Boston, Georgia. A Pisces, Walden is formerly a National Football League punter. He had a fourteen- year career which he spent mostly with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings. He stands at six feet flat and weighs 190 pounds. In both teams, he wore the same jersey number which was 39. He was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the fourth round as 32nd overall of the 1961 American Football League Draft.

 

In 1964, he was the leader in punting for the NFL and was chosen to be a part of the Pro Bowl after the 1969 season. He was also a part of the Steelers’ winning team in Super Bowl IX and Super Bowl X.

 

He had been a member of the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football league prior to his NFL career. He was the leader in punting, rushing, and receiving in the years 1961 and 1962.

 

During college, he played for the University of Georgia Bulldogs and was the leader in average yards per punt in 1958 in the entire country. This was when he was still a sophomore. He set a record in the Orange Bowl for yards per punt in 1960.

He was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the 4th round (32nd overall) of the 1961 AFL Draft.
