Bobby Richardson is a retired player in the Major League Baseball who hails from Sumter, South Carolina. He played as part of the defense for the New York Yankees which he joined in 1955. His first game in the league was on August 5, 1955 and played on jersey number 1 for the Yankees. He was given the Gold Gloves award five times in his entire career and was part of the New York Yankee’s game in the World Series of 1962.

According to reviews, he had his best season in 1962 when he recorded a .302 batting average and logged 8 home runs with 59 RBIs. He also recorded 209 hits that season which became the highest in the American League. In 161 games he played that season, he was able to record 11 stolen bases. He was also named to the All-Star team that year and finished second in the American League Most Valuable Player voting. As a player of the team in the World Series, he made a remarkable performance against Willie Mays of the San Francisco Giants.

Richardson ended his twelve years in the league with 643 runs and 73 stolen bases. He also logged 1, 432 hits and a .266 batting average.
