A professional baseball player for 17 seasons, Bobby Murcer has played primarily as center fielder and right fielder. He was born on May 20, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He first played in minor leagues from 1964-1966 and hit and average of .302. He was then lined up to the Yankees’ third baseman but then he ended up as the center fielder. Murcer had a good performance during his years in the Yankees and became one of the team’s most popular players of that time. It was in 1972 when he played vigorously with 30 doubles, 7 triples, 33 home runs, and 96 runs batted in. When he led the American League, he scored 102 with 70 extra base hits, 314 total bases, 171 hits, and he became 10th in batting .291. He was traded to San Francisco Giants with Bobby Bonds in 1975. He ranked 6th in the National League gaining 23 home runs and ranked 7th with 90 runs batted in. Murcer came back to the Yankees as a hitter on June 26, 1979. Murcer also bagged the Gold Glove Award in 1972. He has an average of 21 home runs, 89 runs batted in, and an average of .277 in his full season during his career. But he retired in 1983.
Murcer found a career in broadcasting after he retired. He had been a sports caster for the Yankees on broadcast television, radio, and currently YES Network. He won three Emmy Awards for live sports coverage as the voice for the Yankees.
