Robert Leigh Higginson, popular as Bobby Higginson, is a retired Major League Baseball outfielder who spent his professional career with the Detroit Tigers. Born on August 18, 1970, he was drafted to play in the major league by the Tigers in the 1992 amateur draft as a 12th round pick. In 1995, he played his rookie year in the league and appeared in 130 games for his team. The nest year, he made a .300 batting average and made above 100 runs in 1997. He became one of the few MLB players to have 15 stolen bases, 44 doubles, 30 home runs, 100 runs batted in and a batting average of .300 is just a single year. That year also, he had his career high number of home runs with 30. According to reviews, he was one of the good outfielders the league has had. He was a two-time leader in number of assists and recorded the highest number of putouts among the left fielders in 2001. Higginson was one of the eight players in MLB who was named as “Tiger of the Year”. Other recipients of this award were Cecil Fielder, Kirk Gibson, Ron LeFlore, among others.
He played his final Major League Baseball game on May 5, 2005 and registered a career batting average of .272 and had 187 home runs. He had 709 runs batted in for his entire career.
