Robert Lee Hammond is a retired professional football player of the National Football League. Known as “Bobby Hammond”, he was born on February 20, 1952 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Before he made his way to the National Football League, he represented the Bayside High School as part of the school’s football team. In college, he attended and played football at Morgan State University. Listed at 5 ft. 10 in. and 171 lbs in weight, he played as a running back. He began playing in the National Football League in 1976 for the New York Giants. He spent four seasons as the Giants’ running back.
In 1977, he rushed 577 yards for the Giants and made 554 rushing yards in 1978. He appeared in 34 games for the Giants and started 10 games for the team. He recorded a total of 42 points as a Giant. In 1979, he joined the Washington Red Skins and recorded 16 receiving yards, which improved to 208 the following year. With the Red Skins, he had 20 games and started two games. In his two-year stint with the Red Skins, he was able to score two points that makes his career record of 48 points made. He spent five seasons in the National Football League and recorded a total of 1401 yards rushed.
