About Bob Nystrom Memorabilia & Collectibles
Robert Thore Nystrom or Bob Nystrom is retired ice hockey player born in Stockholm, Sweden. He started playing for the
New York Islanders as a right winger since 1972 to 1986. He was able to receive the Stanley Cup in 1980 when he made a winning goal score of 7:11 mark during a game with the
Philadelphia Flyers. Because of his passion and love for
hockey, he worked hard to earn the respect of his fellow Islanders. But this wasn’t enough for Bob. He continued to practice and was able to improve his ability in skating. In 1985, his body grew tired and worn out. After resting for three months, he went back to the game but was struck accidentally by a teammate
Gerald Diduck. Because of the severity of the accident that struck his eye, he had to undergo surgery. His last game appearance was in 1986 when Al Arbour, the Islander coach, convinced him to play for the last time after his eye surgery. He got to play for five seconds only and never returned to the game. It was in 1991 that the team started giving the Bob Nystrom award to players that excel and show exemplary leadership, dedication and hustle.
