Bob Gibson is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals for the entire duration that he spent in the MLB. Gibson became active from 1959 to 1975. He is currently a special instructor coach for the Cardinals. In 1981, he was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His jersey number was also retired by the Cardinals.
Gibson played both basketball and baseball. He played basketball during off-season until he was asked to quit in exchange for a bonus. Gibson was given the nickname “Hoot” but Cardinals fans. He was able to make 200 strikeouts in 1962. Gibson had a winning percentage of .658 while pitching in the 1963 season to the 1970 season.
In 1964, Gibson received the World Series MVP Award after the Cardinals went on to become champions for that season. He also took the World Series MVP Award in 1967. In 1968, he won the first of his Cy Young Awards and took the second in 1970. Gibson won the Golden Glove Award for nine consecutive years, from 1965 to 1973. In 1969, Gibson was able to throw an immaculate inning, making him the 15th pitcher in the history of the Major League to do so. Gibson received the 1964 Babe Ruth Award.
