About Bill Rigney Memorabilia & Collectibles


Bill Rigney was a former professional baseball player who also worked as a manager in the Major League Baseball. He was born as William Joseph Rigney on January 29, 1918 in Alameda, California. He became part of the New York Giants team in the Major League Baseball in 1946 and stayed with the team until the 1953 season. According to many statistics, he had his best season in 1947 when he logged 17 home runs and 24 doubles in 130 games that he appeared in. He also logged 59 runs batted in that year together with 84 hits. The following season, he was named to the All-Star team. He batted and threw with his right hand and had a total of 654 games played in the Major League Baseball and logged a career record of 41 home runs and 212 runs batted in. He ended his Major League Baseball career with .259 batting average.

 

After he retired from professional baseball career, he worked as the manager of the New York Giants starting the 1956 seasons and left the team in 1960. He also became the manager of the Los Angeles Angels in 1961 and was named as the Manger of the Year in the American League in 1962. He also had a short broadcasting career after MLB.

Bill Rigney (full name: William Joseph Rigney; Specs and The Cricket) played second baseman, third baseman and shortstop from 1946 until 1953 for the New York Giants. He played for the Giants from 1946 - 1953. Over 8 seasons, he played 654 games, hit 41 home runs, drove in 281 runs, and stole 25 bases. Born on January 29, 1918 in Alameda, CA, Rigney stood 6' 1" and weighed 178 lb. He attended Oakland (Oakland, CA) (All Transactions) high school. His debut was on April 16, 1946 and he played his final game on September 12, 1953. Common misspellings of his name include Specs William The Will Bill Joseph Cricket billy William Rigney.
