Bill Champion (full name: Buford Billy Champion; no nicknames) played pitcher from 1969 until 1976 for the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers. He played for the Phillies from 1969 - 1972 and Brewers from 1973 - 1976. Over 8 seasons, he started 102 games, won 34 games, struck out 360 batters, and had a 4.69 ERA. Born on September 18, 1947 in Shelby, NC, Champion stands 6' 4" and weighs 188 lb. He attended Shelby (Shelby, NC) high school and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the 1965 amateur draft. His debut was on June 4, 1969 and he played his final game on June 5, 1976. Over his career, Champion made $33,000. Common misspellings of his name include Buford Bill billy Will William Champion.
