However, before he even attained a flourishing career in the field of boxing, Hopkins had an early difficult life. As a matter of fact, he was sentenced to 18 years in Grateford Prison at only 17 years old. He was given such punishment for nine felonies. Fortunately, he was released succeeding his five years of service in prison.
